Obituary

Alice Lurline Dister, 87, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Vancouver, Washington.

Alice was born on July 8, 1936, to Orville and Catherine O'Rourke Rice in West Virginia. She married Ronald Joseph Dister on July 6, 1957, at St. John Church in Vancouver, Washington. Together, they had two children: Thomas Joseph and Mary Alice.

Alice was a devout Catholic with a servant's heart. She was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and operating room nurse. After graduating at the top of her nursing program, she dedicated twenty years of service to the Government of the United States of America as a nurse at VA Medical Center in Portland, Oregon until her retirement in 1995.

Alice enjoyed traveling the world on cruises with family and friends, spending time at the coast, gardening, reading and playing piano. She also volunteered at the local hospital for many years and enjoyed sweet fellowship with ladies from church.  She will be fondly remembered for her faithfulness, strength of spirit and loving commitment to the wellbeing of others.

Alice is survived by her son, Thomas J. Dister; and her daughter, Mary Alice Scavo and her husband, John Scavo. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Catherine Mary and Kathleen Alice; and her brother, Orville M. Rice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Ronald J. Dister in 2009; and a sister, Catherine Morrow (née Rice) of Texas.

A graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery. Arrangements to be made by Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home.
