BEVERLY SUE KIDD
November 1, 1933 – January 21, 2023
Beverly Sue Kidd, 89, of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully in her sleep after many long years of battling Alzheimer's disease. She was born Beverly Sue Smedley in Poteau, OK, and raised on a farm there until she was 13, when her family moved to Southern California. She married Kenneth Motherway when she was young and had 3 kids, later divorcing. In 1971 she married Keith Kidd and they shared over 40 years of life together before his passing.
"Beverly always saw the glass as half full" Her outlook on life was positive, even in the challenging times that came her way. She would tell her children, "You've got the world by the tail", and she could make us believe it. She had a quiet faith in God, trusting that the Lord would support her.
"Beverly loved her family above all else" Her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sisters and brothers, and nieces and nephews, were all her highest priority. She loved nothing more than to be cooking up a storm in the kitchen for her family, gathering everyone together as often as she could! Family meant the world to her, and she taught us all how important it was to stay close and connected to each other.
"Beverly loved sports!" She loved playing sports and watching sports! In her own admission, she was a big tomboy, who loved being outdoors. She was on the basketball team in high school, played baseball, and loved to fish and swim in the creek near their home. Her favorite sport was basketball, and her favorite team was the Los Angeles Lakers. When you watched a game with Mom, you'd have to listen to her coaching her beloved Kobe through the TV!
"Beverly was honest, hardworking, and fun loving" She worked for Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. for 36 years as a computer operator, doing payroll and running invoices. She taught her family the value of honesty and hard work, the importance of showing up on time, and being responsible. She could stretch a dime, and often took the kids to the beach or park for the day, because it didn't cost anything. And boy she knew how to laugh and have fun!
In 2000, when asked to write a response to how she wished to be remembered, she wrote this: "As a kind and decent person who loved her family and was grateful for the good things in life and was able to handle the bad."
Beverly is survived by her pride and joys – her children David (Cindy), Daniel (Barbara), Carolyn (Spencer), Karen (Roger), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Frances, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service at Vancouver Church of the Nazarene, 16807 NE Fourth Plain Road, Vancouver, WA 98682, Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 3 pm.
Beverly will be buried next to her husband Keith, in a private service at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
