Byron is survived by his wife of 56 years and the love of his life, Janice Swanson (DeSpain); his daughters, Christina Richardson and Teresa Lewis (son-in-law, Christopher Lewis); grandchildren, Baylie Richardson, David Richardson (granddaughter-in-law, Nicki Richardson), Reilly Lewis and Jaxon Lewis.

Byron enjoyed a lifelong career in radio broadcasting and retired from Clear Channel Broadcasting as the chief engineer of Z100, KEX and K103. He was also a disc jockey in the 1960s on KISN radio as "Johnny Dark." He met his wife (Jan) at KISN and followed his passion for engineering. He was an active HAM radio operator throughout his life with the call signs of W7BP and W7SYJ.

He had an adventurous spirit and loved to explore the history of the Pacific Northwest. He enjoyed boating and spent many hours behind the helm of his cruiser with a crew of family and friends aboard. He was known for his sense of humor _ his family and friends enjoyed many laughs around the campfire at their property at Lake Cushman, WA.

Byron was born on Jan. 14, 1938, in Longview, WA. He was 85 years of age when he passed in Vancouver, WA on Sept. 15, 2023.

A celebration of his life will be held on Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 East Main St., Battle Ground, WA.
