DICK W. "CHAN" CHANDLEE
September 16, 1941 ˜ March 20, 2022
Dick W. "Chan" Chandlee, 80 years, died at 10:12 am on March 20, 2022 at the Legacy Hospital in Salmon Creek, WA. He was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Portland, OR, the son of Ruel Chandlee and Dorothy Morgan.
Due to the past four years, with progressive neurodegenerative disease, the finality of his death is heart wrenching. His children fortunate enough to be by his side, with a peaceful death, without suffering.
He leaves behind two sons, Shane and Seth Chandlee; a daughter-in-law, Nicky Porter; and a granddaughter, Sofia Chandlee.
Chan (or "Chanman") graduated from Fort Vancouver High School, class of 1959. Before graduation Chan was an Eagle Scout, served in the medical unit of the US Army during Vietnam. He then continued to obtain a Masters Degree in fine arts from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, where he met his wife, Nancy Kiellor, and they settled in Vancouver, WA, celebrating 51 years of marriage together.
He was an architect, designer, craftsmen, artist, developer, builder, value engineer, skier and educator at heart. He was a gentleman with much wisdom, a hard worker and loving man.
He spent his younger years fishing Gee Creek in Ridgefield, WA, with his cousin "Uncle Jim".
During high school years he enjoyed fast cars, skiing on Mt.Hood with friends, camping at Spirit Lake (pre 1980) and spending time with family.
Chan helped raise two children with patience, discipline and humanity. He taught them to design and build custom homes and took his family skiing every weekend.
In a way, Dick didn't die, as he lives in our hearts, and we can celebrate his life by remembering all the good times. We can often replay these adventures and experiences in our mind, and they will bring us comfort.
A service of remembrance will be held between the hours of 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17th at the block of 23rd and Franklin, downtown Vancouver.
