Ernest Fredrick Ihnken, III, 91, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, in Vancouver, WA. Born on August 7, 1933, in Queens, New York, he was the son of Ernest and May Ihnken.
Ernie is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Ihnken, Patty (Ihnken) Alway; son-in-law, Russ Alway and his grandson, Patrick Ihnken; grand daughter-in-law, Naomi Ihnken
Growing up in Flushing, New York, Ernie attended Manhattan University graduating in 1955 with a bachelors of Science Physical Education.
Ernie proudly served his country in the army as a SP3 from December 1955 through August 1957. Ernie was stationed in Germany where he met his soon to be wife Klaras.
Klaras and Ernie were married at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on September 21, 1963. They lived in Flushing New York until 1967, when the couple and their two daughters, Kathleen and Patricia, moved to Vancouver, WA. Ernie worked as a PE teacher at Sunnyside Elementary until 1971 when due to a back injury he retired.
Ernie was a dedicated member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish serving for many years on the parish council.
Throughout his life, Ernie enjoyed reading, playing volleyball and watching his beloved New York Yankees - in some years winning and in others losing.
A joint funeral mass with Klaras Ihnken will be held Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 4723 NW Franklin St, Vancouver, WA 98663
