Generosa "Rosa"
Manglona Castro
Jul 17, 1949 — May 29, 2026
Vancouver
Generosa "Rosa" Manglona Castro passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the age of 76.
Born on July 17, 1949, on the beautiful island of Rota in the Northern Mariana Islands, Rosa's life journey would take her far beyond the shores of her small island home. As a young military spouse, she left Rota and moved to Germany, her family's first duty station. What could have been an overwhelming experience became the beginning of a lifelong love of travel and adventure. Germany opened doors to new cultures, new experiences, and countless opportunities to explore the world—something Rosa embraced wholeheartedly.
Over the course of more than 20 years as a military spouse, Rosa and her family lived in Germany, Hawaii, Washington, California, and Colorado. No matter where life took her, she created a loving home filled with warmth, good food, laughter, and family.
Family was the center of Rosa's world. She spent many years moving between the homes of her children, helping raise her grandchildren and later delighting in her growing family of great-grandchildren. Her children affectionately called her "Mamacita," and her grandchildren simply knew her as Grandma. She was endlessly proud of her family and never missed an opportunity to talk about them, celebrate them, or shower them with love.
A devout Catholic, Rosa lived her faith through acts of kindness, generosity, and service to others. She had a special gift for making people feel welcome and was known for her warm heart and willingness to help strangers as readily as family.
Rosa's love language was food. Family gatherings were made special by the dishes she prepared with care and pride. She was especially known for her tityas, fried ribs, crab salad, and cheesecake—recipes and memories that will continue to bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
She also found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved movies, discovering new places to visit, trying different foods, and surrounding herself with beauty. Though military life kept her moving from place to place, she always filled her homes with plants and flowers. She loved visiting botanical and floral gardens and could spend hours admiring nature's colors and beauty.
Those who knew Rosa knew she had a feisty streak and a stubborn side, both balanced by a deeply loving heart. She lived life on her own terms and believed in enjoying the moments that mattered most. With her trademark mix of humor and determination, she would often smile and say, "Just let me live my life." Those words perfectly captured her independent spirit and her appreciation for the simple joys of living.
Rosa is survived by her children, Gregory Castro, Jenny Thomas, Jemmy Castro, and Yolanda Clement; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind countless relatives and friends whose lives were enriched by her love, generosity, and presence.
She will be remembered for her strength, her faith, her laughter, her cooking, her love of flowers, and above all, her unwavering devotion to family. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured, the traditions she passed down, and the love she gave so freely.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that her love remains with them always.
Viewing and visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hamilton Mylan Funeral Home, located at 302 W 11th Street, Vancouver, Washington.
Following the viewing, family and friends are invited to accompany the procession to Mother Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where a graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m.
All who knew and loved Rosa are welcome to attend.
