Gerald W. Roberts was born May 21, 1941 and passed away Thursday October 24, 2024 in Portland, Oregon. His proud parents were Laurence R. Roberts and Josephine F. (Merevantz) Roberts. Gerry was preceded in death by both his parents.
After graduating from Fort Vancouver High School (1959), Gerry took classes for a short time at University of Washington and Portland State University. In June 1962 Gerry received his Associates degree in Applied Science from Clark College in Vancouver, WA.
His working career included Electronic Specialty Company (now Boeing) where Gerry achieved his Journeyman Machinist status and worked through all the phases of aircraft machine work, tools and maintenance. At Western Electric Co Columbia River Plant in Portland, OR he was a mechanical technician breaking down, building, and fabricating equipment. At Simpson Timber Co Gerry was a Plant Millwright and backup electrician. One last stop with TetraPak Vancouver, WA as a Machinist maintenance Technician on paper cartons machines and printing equipment before retiring. That was short lived, Gerry continued working as a contractual machinist traveling globally. He loved working with machines and figuring out the puzzles they would provide. Oftentimes, at his happiest, you could hear him whistling while he worked.
Working on cars, building Rat Rods and restoring cars was one of Gerry's pleasures. He was extremely talented at everything he did and was wise beyond his years. Many people turned to him for his knowledge and guidance.
Gerry will be remembered for his generosity, quirky personality, kindness, and loving manner. He could make you laugh even on a gloomy day.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Melvine (Dolly) Roberts, daughter Michele Kinney (husband Joe), step-daughter Tiffany Brown Waller (husband Chris), step-daughter Terrine Brown (husband Charles), sibling Nancy Wolf, grandchildren, Kira Miedusiewski, Amanda Kinney, Elisabeth Kinney, Jordan Roberts, great grandson Hudson Steinaur, step grandchildren Tyler Mays, Alden Mays, and Blake Waller along with countless lifetime friends all of whom he cherished. Preceding Gerry's death - his first wife Sharyn and sons Michael and Jeffrey.
Gerry will truly be missed by all who knew him and the many whose lives he touched through his kindness and passion to help. You were one of the lucky ones if you knew Gerry.
His funeral will be held Monday November 18, 2024, at 11:00am, location St. Joseph Catholic Church (400 S. Andresen Rd., Vancouver, WA) followed by a brief interment at Park Hill Cemetery, 5915 E. Mill Plain Blvd. Vancouver, WA. Reception location Shorewood West Recreation Room 5545 E Evergreen Blvd Vancouver, WA after interment.
