Obituary

Herbert "Ed" Edmund Jones passed away on March 5th, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.

Ed was born in 1944 to Herbert L. Jones and Margaret Zimmerman Jones in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His family, which included his older sister Margaret, moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, when Ed was three years old. After completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S Army, which took him abroad to Turkey for three years.  He returned to the United States and was stationed at Fort Lewis, and it was then he met his future wife Florence through mutual friends. The two were married a year later in Oregon City, Oregon. Ed and Florence raised three children in St. John's, Oregon. The family was involved in square dancing, Boy Scouts, Campfire Girls, and in the Assumption Catholic Parish.

Ed worked as a field service technician for ESCO for almost forty years, relocating to Danville, Illinois in the middle of his career and eventually retiring in Vancouver, Washington to be near his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of The Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club, Clark Rifles, and a lifelong Hunter Safety Instructor. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, camping, and attending Army Security Agency reunions around the country.

Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence, their three children and their spouses: Theresa and Kahlil Breithaupt, Tawnya and Mark Pongracz-Bartha, and Robert and Kelly Jones. They have six grandchildren: Ellie, Chloe, Annastasia, Katarina, Nicholas and Catherine, and three great-grandchildren: Peter, Theodore and Sarah.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 15th at The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater in Vancouver, Washington, beginning with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:25am, followed by the funeral mass at 10:00am. Reception to follow in the church hall.

There will be an Honors Ceremony at Willamette National Cemetery following the reception. Please meet there at 1:00pm if you're planning to attend.
