James Richard Gregory

April 25, 1936 ~ March 24, 2023

James "Richard" Gregory was born in Stanfield, Oregon on April 25, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gwendolyn and Alfred, his siblings Alan, Melvin, Leonard, and Jeanne. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his son Steven, daughter Debra (Giannis) and daughter Christina, as well as granddaughters Mersene, Niki, Emily and Gwen, and several nieces and nephews who he all loved dearly.

Known by close friends and family as Rick, and to coworkers as Dick or Richard, he was always challenging himself. As a youth Richard loved playing sports such as football, basketball and baseball. As an adult he was awarded several amateur trophies for bowling and golf. Though he was never much of a fisherman, he loved going out on his boat with his brother Leonard and cutting the breeze. He was an avid Seahawks and Trail Blazers fan and was actually wrapped in a Blazers quilt when he passed.

Always up to a challenge, Richard was a hard worker. The Monday after he graduated from high school, he began working for ALCOA, where he was employed for 37 years and continually trained to improve his knowledge of Information Systems. He eventually ventured into private contracting. He finally settled at Cascade Student Transport, retiring at the age of 82, chiefly because of mobility issues.

Richard always had a quick, sharp mind and strong sense of humor. Age did nothing to affect that. He bonded well with everyone he met and was always eager to please. Richard was not ready to face death. He was never one to give up.
