Janice Maureen Weber, 84, a resident of Vancouver, WA, and former long-term resident of Walla Walla, WA, passed away on Dec. 25, 2022 after battling a series of health issues.
Born Janice Maureen Johnson, Oct. 11, 1938 to Eva Mae and Rosco Johnson in Walla Walla. Her father worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad, and they lived in The Dalles, OR, and later Wallula, WA, before settling in Walla Walla.
Janice was a 1956 graduate of Walla Walla High School. After graduating she worked at Gardner's Department Store, married Ronald Grassi, and raised their two children, Julie, and Mark. She worked at Seattle First National Bank and First Federal Savings and Loan during those years.
Janice left the area and married Bill Weber in 1983 settling in Olympia, WA. She held positions within several state agencies while living there including the Washington State Medical Commission, Licensing Division. They relocated to Vancouver, where she worked until her retirement with the Department of Social and Health Services, Child and Family Services Division in 2004.
After Janice retired from state service, Bill relocated to the east coast, but remained caring and supportive of her until her passing.
Janice was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was involved in the church choir. She had a deep faith and thrived in her church community throughout her life. She was a member of New Heights Church and later Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver. She was active in the women's ministry at Crossroads.
Janice was a devoted grandmother to Madelynn Martin. She was very involved in Madelynn's life and supported her various activities while growing up.
Janice's greatest joy in life was her family and she valued every minute that she could spend with them.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Julie Grassi, and son Mark Grassi, both of Vancouver; two grandchildren, Madelynn Martin of Los Angeles, CA, and Christian Richey of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as two great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, John Johnson of Walla Walla; and two sisters, Lee Engebretson of Walla Walla, and Serena Johnson of Vancouver; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A springtime memorial service is pending.
