Obituary

Joan Ann Allen, born May 28th, 1933, and passed away on May 30th, 2025, at the age of 92 years old. Joan was married to her husband Arnold E Allen Sr for 73 ½ years. Joan was predeceased by her parents Thomas Dewey, Grace M Lyon and stepfather Loren K Lyon and her brother Thomas Lyon and sister Rosalene Schellenberger, her sons Rodney William Allen, and Robert Thomas Allen as well as her son in law Charles (Butch) Heinzman.

Joan was a long-time resident of Vancouver, WA. since childhood and was very knowledgeable of the original military Fort Vancouver located below officers' row in Vancouver. She attended the original Fort Vancouver High School on Main Street and majored in music. As a child Joan sang on the radio for a local radio station in the 1940's and often sang for events at a local USO.

Joan was an accomplished vocalist and violinist. Her father and stepfather were both enlisted in the military in Vancouver. Her father later became a commercial painter and painted the still existing railroad bridge over the Columbia River between Vancouver and Portland. Her stepfather was a Long Shoreman and built by his own hands a forever home for Grace and Joan, Tommy and Rosalene.

Joan is survived by her loving husband Arnold E Allen Sr, and her son Arnold E Allen Jr (Proceso Bihis), her daughter Kay Heinzman (Butch) and a foster son Paul Pearce (Casey), (who was best friend to her son Bob Allen). She is also survived by her Grandchildren Troy (Becky) Heinzman, Aaron (Angela) Heinzman, Paula and Linda Allen and Nicoletta and Justin Pearce. Her surviving great grandchildren include Sophie, Abby, Dakota and Alexis Heinzman.

Arrangements handled by Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home of Vancouver, WA. Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, WA. In lieu of flowers or cards, donations are requested in her name to the Ray Hickey Hospice House located at 2112 Mill Plain Blvd in Vancouver, WA.
