Obituary

Joan Kosderka, 75, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 26, 2025.

Joan was born, Joan Frances Knight, in Boise, Idaho and moved to several cities before moving to Portland, Oregon. She was one of 7 children to Willis and Mary Knight. She attended North Catholic High School and met her husband in the strawberry fields while in high school. They married on September 13, 1969, and moved to Corvallis to attend Oregon State University. When Tim received his forestry degree, they moved to North Bend, then Canyonville, where Joan raised their first child for six months before Tim took another job and moved back to North Bend. In 1974, Tim was transferred to Roseburg, where they spent most of their married life. Joan was a devoted stay at home mom who raised 3 children-Paula, Matt and Carrie. She always volunteered at their school, sewed their clothes and made sure they were at all their practices and games. When she wasn't in child rearing, she would read late into the night, sew or be a good listener to friends. She always seemed to be the person everyone came for advice and just to talk. She always knew what was going in other people's lives and would help when she could. Joan was pretty much a saint, and the best wife there could possibly be.  Joan became a member of the Sisters of Mercy and was until her passing.

Joan is survived by her spouse, Tim and her children: Paula & Neilin Cooper from Colorado Springs, Matt and Emily Kosderka from Wilsonville, and Carrie and Justin Farrell from Battleground. Her grandchildren: David, Christopher, Sydney, Colby, Grace and Alex. Her sisters: Paula Miller, Beth Farrell, Mary Kay Holcomb and sister-in-law, Carol Knight.

She is preceded by death by her parents, Willis and Mary Knight, as well as siblings: Tom Knight, Sue Batistich, and John Knight.

Her funeral mass will be Friday, June 30th at 11:00 am. The Rosary will be at 10:30 and family remarks will start at 10:30 am. Her service will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 8701 NE 119th St. Vancouver, WA. Reception will follow with light refreshments afterwards.
