Obituary

John Edward Nye, 92 passed away in his Vancouver residence of 39 years on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, of renal kidney failure; born on June 1, 1933, in Kelso, WA to parents: Clyde M. Nye and Elizabeth M. Baumgartner. he was one of eight siblings; brothers: Robert Nye, Joe Nye, Richard Nye, Martin Nye; sisters: Velma Nye, Marion Nye, Clare Nye. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Jane Zanni, her Sons: Martin and David Zanni; his daughter, Julie Ann Nye. He graduated from Vancouver High School; had an Associate degree in Engineering from Clark College, Bachelor of Schience degree in General Engineering from the University of Portland and attended the University of Washington Engineering Graduate School; was awarded inclusion in the Apollo/Saturn V roll of Honor for distinguished participation (recorded in the Smithsonian Institution Library of Congress) in the first US manned Lunar Landing, received Engineering "Zero Defects" award on two occasions; named as contributor of the month in the space division for a $100,000 cost savings; received Apollo Achievement Award. He was Senior Engineer and Lead Reliability Engineer of the Minuteman Program from the Boeing Company. He was employed with Boeing for 10 years and was employed with South Central Bell for 11 years as Safety Supervisor; also, was a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

He loved the outdoors. he loved to hike, camp, swim, fish, boat, travel and go to family outings. He also loved to read and learn new skills.

He was a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus and loved volunteering for the various Knights functions such as helping with the church breakfast and selling fireworks and going to the monthly meetings. One thing in the latter years he really enjoyed was telling a joke or two at the Knights meeting he attended, and the Knights really seemed to enjoy the jokes an even looked forward to it. He was very active in the pro-life movement; always attending the March for Life, going to prayer groups and praying the rosary in front of abortion clinics and donating to pro-life causes. He also sponsored different children in third world countries, helping to fund their education.

He belonged to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. He was very devoted to his faith.

He also served in the National Guard, Army division; trained as a spotter of enemy planes.

He wanted to be remembered for his strong faith and commitment to the Catholic Church and its teachings. he was honest and hard-working but most of all he was a beloved Father and Husband.

Hi funeral mass will be held on January 5th, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (Vancouver, WA) at 11:00 am preceded by the rosary at 10:15 am and followed by the grave side burial at 12:30 pm.
