Loren Bernard
White
Dec 25, 1934 — Feb 6, 2026
Vancouver
Loren B. White, "Whitey," passed away on February 6th in Vancouver, Washington, at the age of 92. He was born on January 25, 1934, in Everett, Washington, and grew up in Port Angeles and Tacoma.
After graduating from high school, Loren enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He proudly served four years as a radio operator and was scheduled for deployment to Korea, but the ceasefire was signed just weeks before he was to leave, sparing him from going to war. Much of his service was spent stationed in Bermuda, a place that would change his life forever.
It was there, at a dance hosted by their Arthur Murray instructors, that he met the love of his life, Mary Tysarski of Grandview, Manitoba, Canada. Loren had arrived at the dance on his motorcycle with an Air Force buddy, but after meeting Mary, he told his friend to find another way home and escorted her back to the Bermudiana Hotel, where she worked. In true radio operator fashion, Loren proposed to Mary just a few months after they met in Morse Code and followed it with a traditional spoken proposal. They were married in Grandview and began a life together that would span 58 blissful years until Mary's passing in 2015.
Following his military service, Loren initially worked for the railroad before building a successful career in real estate and land appraising. He and Mary lived in several communities throughout Washington before settling in Vancouver, where they made their permanent home. A year and a half spent living on the Big Island of Hawaii was a lifelong dream come true for them both. Their love for the island never faded; they returned every year for the next twenty years, creating cherished memories in a place that held their hearts.
Loren was a man of deep generosity, remarkable patience, and quiet devotion. He approached life with a steady, unhurried presence that put others at ease. No task was ever beneath him, and no job was ever too hard, whether in his career, at church, or helping family and friends. If something needed to be done, Loren simply did it, without complaint and without seeking recognition. He believed in doing things the right way and seeing them through to completion.
He loved helping others and gave freely of his time. He was a regular donor with the Red Cross through apheresis, volunteered at church, and was always present at his grandchildren's activities at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. What stood out most about Loren was his unwavering love for his family. He was happiest when giving, supporting, fixing, building, encouraging, and cheering on those he loved.
He celebrated his 92nd birthday on January 25th and was especially excited to watch the Seattle Seahawks win their playoff game. We are certain he was cheering just as enthusiastically from heaven when they went on to win the Super Bowl.
Loren was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; his sons Tim and Ron; and his younger brother, Ronnie. He is survived by his older sister, Dolly Mozel; his son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Stormy; his daughter, Cristy Higdon, and son-in-law, Bruce; his grandchildren, Tony and Alex White, and Sam and Elizabeth Niehaus; his nieces, Shirley Bomak and Cathy Newell; and his nephews, Gary, Steven, and Greg Mozel.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass on Tuesday, February 24th, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow. Interment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Loren's love, laughter, and kindness will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
