MATTHEW DONALD HRUBY

Matthew Donald Hruby was born June 23, 1986, in San Diego, CA, and is the oldest of three siblings. An energetic child, Matt was always competitive in sports and physical activities. Starting with youth soccer at the age of 4, he continued to excel in all sports including ice hockey, baseball and soccer. The height of his sports commitments came when he was selected for the Maverick's ice hockey team and traveled the western US representing Vancouver, WA, skating out of the Mountain View Ice arena.

Matt's family arrived in Vancouver fall of 1994 and Matt attended Vancouver and Evergreen schools. He excelled in language studies, finding he could speak fluent Spanish after only two semesters which served him well in his career. He is a 2004 graduate of Mountain View High School and spent time as an Airman in the US Air Force, stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho. He earned marksmanship awards, trained and worked as a fueling technician with an F-15 squadron at Mountain Home. He earned Nat'l Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. After military service he settled down in Portland, OR. Matt enjoyed a great love for music and played drums with a local band in high school and subsequently taught himself piano in which he continued to excel.

His chosen vocation was hospitality/culinary and he spent many years at restaurants in Washington, Illinois and Oregon. His many years in the kitchen earned the admiration of coworkers, family and friends. Matt enjoyed becoming a father July 2014 with the arrival of his only child, Carson Grey Hruby. Matt was very active in physical fitness and enjoyed running, weight lifting, hiking, camping and fishing.

Matthew Hruby is survived by his parents, William and Dona Hruby; sisters, Shawna Catalano and Ashley Hruby; cousins, Austin and Michael Burton; as well as many loving aunts and uncles. Our hearts will long to see him again as we look forward to an eternal life together.

A service of Christian Memorial will be held 1:00 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2021, at New Heights East, 1902 NE 185th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98684.
