Obituary

Nicholas Edward Wehage, 65 of Vancouver, Washington passed away on April 7, 2024, at Ray Hickey Hospice House after a long battle with diabetes and its many complications. It was concluded that his body was suffering from a combination of low blood sugar, heart failure, kidney failure and the flu. Nick was surrounded by his family and passed after a final prayer of the Divine Mercy together.

He was born February 16, 1959, in Portland, Oregon as the 13th out of 15 children to Elsa and Lawrence Wehage.

Nicholas grew up in the Sellwood neighborhood and would go berry picking in the summers with his mother and siblings. In the fall, he spent time hunting with his dad and brothers and his sister Kathy. He attended Oregon State University and Portland State University. He was involved in the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and boxing at OSU, and earned his Bachelor's in Accounting from PSU.

Nick met his wife, Aulani at St. Claire's Young Adult Group in 1984 when they were paired together as prayer partners for Lent. They were married on June 21st, 1987, and had two children, Adam (35) and Catherine (33). They moved to Colorado Springs for five years and returned to the Portland/Vancouver area to raise their children close to family.

Always a whiz at numbers, Nick worked as a Revenue Auditor for the State of Washington and a Controller for Pizza Blends Inc.7

It was Nicholas's faith that guided him throughout life. He was involved in the church including roles in the Knights of Columbus, That Man Is You, Marriage Encounter, People of Praise prayer group and men's group, and an Usher. In stewardship, he volunteered and was on the board for Birthright in Portland and as an original board member for Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic College Preparatory High School. In his final years, he was an active volunteer on Mondays and Fridays helping prepare and distribute meals for the houseless through Greg's Mission at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.

He loved his large family, holidays, picnics, campouts, and reunions. Nick also enjoyed hiking, biking, skiing, hunting, and card games with the family.
