Norma lived on a farm in Weskan, Kansas until she was 13. She moved to Roseburg, Oregon and her parents bought a boarding house in downtown Roseburg. After she graduated from High School, she attended Willamette University where she studied music. She was a skilled pianist and later she would play the pipe organ at the Presbyterian Church in Roseburg.
She married Richard (Dick) Hoskins June 22, 1951, and welcomed three children: Stephen, Susan and Chris. Dick was killed in a bulldozer accident in 1965 and Norma and the children moved to Portland, Oregon a year later.
She met Melvin Roderick (Rod) Anderson, a Lutheran minister with three boys: Melvin, Mark and Larry. They decided this would be a great blended family and made it official in 1967. In 1975, Rod passed away.
Norma last worked as a secretary at Tidland Corporation in Camas, Washington and retired from there in 1997.
She eventually moved to Southern Oregon to be near her sister, Leta. Norma found love with Phil Herrington, and they were happily married until he passed. Norma was a devout Christian her entire life. She lived in Grants Pass, Oregon and attended Merlin Baptist Church. She sang in a Senior Citizen group called the Pacemakers that gave concerts at nursing and retirement homes locally and on tour.
After the group disbanded, Norma moved North to be near her son Chris and daughter in law Malinda.
Norma was interested in singing, playing piano, crocheting and was a wonderful cook.
All who knew her loved her kind spirit, gentle heart, and smile. She will be deeply missed.
Please do not send flowers. An alternative would be to send a small donation to St. Jude Children's hospital which was one place mom donated to.
