Roger Eugene Oliver, born on Sept. 18, 1948, in Spokane, WA, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 3, 2022, surrounded by family.
Roger graduated from Central Valley High School, class of 1966, and later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978. He enlisted in the Army following graduation from high school and was selected to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS). Following completion of OCS in 1967, he was deployed for two tours in Vietnam. He served as a combat infantry platoon leader during his first tour and as a military combat advisor to the Republic of South Vietnam for his second. Accommodations he received during his service include, but are not limited to, the Bronze Star Medal with V device and Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver and 4 Bronze Service Stars, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from active duty in Sept. of 1979, at the rank of Captain, and retired in 1987, at the rank of Major.
Upon completion of military service, Roger was hired as a production supervisor at the Irving, TX, Frito-Lay facility and, in 1987, transferred to the Vancouver, WA, Frito-Lay facility. He performed the duties of production supervisor and project manager up until his retirement in 2005. He continued to work for Frito Lay as an independent contractor until 2019.
Roger was humble about his accomplishments and a man of few words. A loving family man who enjoyed fishing, boating, coaching little league baseball, 4th of July, strawberry shortcake, his mother's lemon cheesecake and his dog Bishop.
Roger is survived by his wife, Lorinda "Lori"; his children, Andrew, Aaron (Leslie), Adam (Chastain) and Anne Denniston (Sean); seven grandchildren, Sierra, Elizabeth, Raelin, Joseph, Hezekiah, Josiah and Uriah. He is also survived by his siblings, Mark (Linda), Rick, and Denise Bafus (Matt). He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal Eugene and Delores Oliver.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church followed by inurnment at the Vancouver Barracks National Cemetery.
