Ronald (Ron)
Wherry
Sep 9, 1951 — Jan 13, 2024
Vancouver
Ronald (Ron) D. Wherry passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, in Vancouver, WA, at the age of 72. Ron was born on September 9, 1951, in Yakima, WA, to David and Marjorie Wherry. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Doris Lilly.
Ron was a kind, caring, and hardworking individual who dedicated over 30 years of his career to the food industry. Starting from his family's orchard, he worked his way up to become project and plant managers for several large food processing companies. At one point, he was appointed to the California Regional Water Quality Board, Los Angeles Region, eventually becoming the Board Chairman. In 1998, Ron established his own consulting business, HR Mtn. Sun, initially focusing on food-related projects. As his company evolved, he primarily worked with Native American tribes across the USA, spending a significant amount of time with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Crow Tribe of Montana.
Ron's dedication to his work was matched by his commitment to his family and community. He was a beloved husband of 45 years to Anna, recommitting their vows in 2022. Ron was a proud father to his sons, Chris and Jon, and his three grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia Wherry, and Donald (Thelma) Wherry.
Ron was an avid gardener, always having a vegetable garden throughout his adult life. Ron and Anna were known for growing extra plants and produce to give to family, friends, and the local food bank.
Ron liked playing and coaching baseball. He played baseball through high school and college. Later as a dad, Ron coached his son's baseball teams for 11 years.
Ron was a recently baptized member of the Catholic Church. Memorial services are planned for Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 8701 NE 1191th St., Vancouver, WA. The rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron's name to Clark County Food Bank (clarkcountyfoodbank.org) or the Humane Society of Southwest Washington (southwesthumane.org).
