Obituary

Samuel Lloyd Porter

July 6, 1942 ~ September 12, 2023

Sameul (Sam) L. Porter was born on July 6, 1942, in Pendleton, Oregon. He passed away in his sleep, at home in Woodland, WA surrounded by family on September 12, 2023, at the age of 81.

Sam is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Sam; stepdaughters, Rhonda and Mikeal; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene, brother, Jeff; and many very close friends and coworkers.

Sam was raised in Eastern Oregon farming and ranching.

After high school, he lived in Vancouver and was a Sargeant First Class for the 146th Artillery in the Washington Army National Guard. Following his honorable discharge, Sam lived in Venersborg, Washington and worked in the construction industry around the Vancouver area.

Feeling the desire & drive back to his roots, he departed the area to pursue his dream. So, for a period of several years, he worked as a cowboy on several cattle ranches in Western Idaho and Central Oregon. This was a dream he pursued and fulfilled that was sparked from his upbringing. He then returned back to Vancouver, where he worked in the construction and drywall industry for over 30 years up until just 2 weeks ago.

Same was an outdoorsman to his core. He loved hunting. His passion for horses kept him busy beyond just exploring on horseback to competitive events such as Team Penning. His love of the mountains provided him an escape that he dearly enjoyed. All of these passions he generously shared among his family and friends. Sam was a great teacher of many of these skills he had mastered.

Sam Porter's legacy lives on through the memories he created with his family, the friendships he nurtured, and the adventures he undertook. He will be remembered not only for his journey through life but also for his love for the great outdoors and the roles he played in many lives. As we bid farewell to Sam, we celebrate the full and rich life he led for 8 decades.
