Saul Rene Montez was born in Houston, TX on November 10, 1971, to Saul and Gloria (Pena) Montez. He went to MacArthur High school and graduated in 1993 from Guthrie Job Corps Center in Guthrie, OK. He enlisted and actively served in the United States Army for four years ranked as Specialist E-4 where he was deployed for a combat mission that turned into a training mission known as Desert Strike as an armor crewman "19 Kilo". He was a loader and driver of the Abrams M1A1 and M1A2 tanks. He was one of the fastest loaders in the company, and someone everyone wanted on their tanks. He was in bravo company 3/8 Cav 1 st Calvary based in Fort Hood, TX. He and his company were the first unit in the US army to test and field the M1A2 Abrams tank. His favorite tank and crew to work with was Bravo 12. He then worked twenty years starting as a drill instructor and made it up to a unit supervisor before retiring from the Harris County Juvenile Probation Dept. in Houston, TX.
Saul moved to Oregon in September of 2018, to be with his grandsons who were his pride and joy.
On October 11, 2022, he married his soul mate Bobbi Phillips at the Lighthouse Church in Gearhart, OR, and celebrated the joyous occasion with family. He enjoyed spending quality time with his grandsons.
On December 5, 2022, Saul passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at St. Vincent hospital in Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Saul and Gloria (Pena) Montez. He is Survived by his wife Bobbi Phillips, his children Josephina Xochipiltecatl and husband Fabian Xochipiltecatl, Alysa (Damien) Montez, Mikayla Montez, Seth Phillips, Raven Montez, and Saul Montez Jr., his three grandsons Abran Xochipiltecatl, Daniel Xochipiltecatl and Greyson Skaff-Arizola. He is also survived by His sister Cynthia Montez, numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. We will cherish his memories forever in our hearts.
A viewing will be held from 10 am - 11am at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home, 302 W. 11th Street, Vancouver, WA 98660 prior to the graveside service.
A military graveside service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 12:45 P.M. at the Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Happy Valley, OR.
