Susan Elaine
Malubay
Jan 24, 1948 — Jun 25, 2024
Vancouver
Beloved wife, sister, aunt, and great-aunt, Susan Elaine Malubay passed away June 25, 2024.
Susan was born in Woodlake, CA, the eldest of three children to Richard Thomas Edmiston and Ruth Elaine Edmiston. Susan attended the University of Hawaii taking a course in hula, just to go to Hawaii in 1969. After the semester, she moved to San Francisco for a while, but couldn't resist the call of the Islands, so she moved back to Hawaii.
In June of 1971, while working for Hertz Rent-A-Car, she met her husband, Kenneth (Ken), who also was working for Hertz Rent-A-Car. Susan worked in the Waikiki location, and Ken at the airport. In August of 1971, they became engaged and married in December 1971. They were married for 52 and a half years.
After living in Reno for three years, they moved back to Hawaii for two years, then San Diego until both she and Ken retired. Upon retirement, both Susan and Ken made the decision to move to Vancouver, WA.
During their 52 years together, they both became fans of NASCAR, Indy racing, wine tasting and cruising. She was thrilled to go on her last cruise in April 2024, to see the total eclipse off the coast of Mazatlan.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ruth, and her sister, Becky. Susan is survived by her husband, Ken; brother, Tom (Gena); brothers-in-law, Glenn Malubay (Jeanne) and Steve Scott; nephews, Jeremy (Jodi), Blair, Tim, Steven (Nicole), Nathan (Rena), Reuben, and Jordan; and great-nephews, Harrison and Nathan; nieces, Lora (Jean-Paul) and Margot (Dustin); great-nieces, Zada and Shyanne.
Susan's services will be held on July 9 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Vancouver, rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the services in Vogel Hall. Inurnment will be July 10, at 11 a.m. at Vancouver Barracks National Cemetery.
Because Susan loved colors, please wear something Hawaiian or colorful. Many thanks to the ER and ICU staff at PeaceHealth.
