Wesley Rainey Jr. was born to Wesley Sr. and Martha Rainey on July 29,1934 in Aberdeen, WA and died on October 15, 2023, in Vancouver, WA.
Wes spent the first couple years of his life in Moclips before moving to Carbonado and then Buckley where he graduated from White River High School in 1953. He joined the Navy Reserve prior to his senior year in high school. Wes married Shirley Brown in 1954 and had two children, Michael and Sheri. Following their divorce in 1993, Wes married Linda Brazier on January 15, 1999.
Wes began his working career as a logger but soon found interest in the insurance industry and worked at Mutual of Enumclaw in Enumclaw, WA. This career brought his young family to Chehalis for a couple years and then to Vancouver in 1960 where he worked for Billy King Insurance. In 1971, Wes partnered with two other agents to open Church, Rainey & Scott Insurance Agency, which eventually led him to open his own agency in 1975 selling Grange Insurance and retiring in 2005.
Some of Wes' dedicated memberships and leadership roles include Salmon Creek Grange 7th Degree (51 yrs.), Fraternal Order of Eagles (70 yrs.), Junior Chamber International (60yrs), First Presbyterian Church, Miss Washington Scholarship Organization board member (late 1960s), and Washington State Jaycee President (1967). He held many roles in all the organizations he participated in.
Along with being a hard worker and leader, Wes was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. He loved spending time with his family, feeding squirrels, working outdoors, and organizing his collections.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Martha Rainey; brothers Donald Rainey and Kenneth Rainey; son, Michael Rainey; granddaughter, Sara Mielke; and his beloved dog, Caesar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24yrs, Linda; sister, Susie Selland (Bob); daughter, Sheri Backous (Rick); grandchildren, Bobbi Williams, Lindsay Raymond, Erica Nemnich, Kelly Goodman, Cole Rainey, James Rainey, Peter Rainey; and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Colleen Finney, Mike Finney (Darry) and Debbie Elgin (Robert); step-grandchildren Brianna Finney, Brad Finney, Aric Finney, Aaron Finney, Lauren Finney, Alex Gettys, Dustin Finney; and eleven step great grandchildren.
Wes will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will take place on November 4th at 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main Street, Vancouver, WA.
